We just got back from the Magic show in Las Vegas where we spent a great deal of time with Unit Clothing, so it only made sense that we brought you the highlights from Cam White’s Hillside Dirt Jam 6. The event is sponsored by Unit and has been the premier BMX dirt jump competition in the world for quite some time now. It can be said that there are no contests anywhere in the world that can touch what the the Australians are doing on their home turf. They are truly leading the sport of BMX and are allowing more progression in the sport thanks to their riders, the contests they put on, events like this one and Giants Of Dirt and companies like Unit Clothing.

First Ever Snowmobile Front Flip Behind The Scenes

As many of you know Slednecks rider Heath Frisby successfully landed the first ever front flip on a snowmobile at the Winter X-Games this past weekend. This feat earned him a gold medal and bragging rights for the rest of his life. What you might not know about is the work and the training that went into preparing for this trick and making sure that it was actually possible. Check out the video below to see an exclusive behind the scenes look at the front flip with Heath Frisby.

Frisby lands first snowmobile frontflip

As is always the case new ground was broken at X-Games this year and the sled riders were no exception. Heath Frisby came out and threw aside what any one thought was physically possible and landed a perfect front flip on his snowmobile. Heath had been talking about the trick prior to X-Games, but no one was sure if we would see the front flip materialize. Needless to say he walked away with the gold medal in Snowmobile Best Trick and raised the bar for everyone from here on out. Check out the footage below.

Dane Searls : Giants Of Dirt 3

As most of you know BMX pro Dane Searls passed away on November 25th, 2011. Before doing so Dane was able to complete his dream of successfully building and riding the biggest BMX dirt jumps that have ever been ridden by anybody. The “Giants Of Dirt” was a project that had been a long time in the making for Dane, something that had taken endless amounts of hours, dedication, injuries, broken bikes and a whole lot of balls. No one had ever jumped 40, 50 and 60 foot jumps on a BMX bike in a row and no one has pulled back flips over anything like this before. Some of these jumps look like the ones that we see FMX riders hit in the X-Games.

Two days after completing his dream and brining the “Giants Of Dirt” to a reality Dane was out celebrating and suffered a traumatic brain injury while diving into a pool. He remained in a coma for 5 days until he surcame to his injuries. It was a very sad day for the Action Sports industry, a really hard loss for the Australian BMX community and Dane’s sponsors, friends and family. In the finial edit of the “Giants Of Dirt” sessions Dane shows us what is truly possible on a BMX bike and has now opened the door for the future of BMX. It’s too bad Dane will not be with us to see what the future holds, but one thing is for certain no one will ever forget who paved the way.

RIP Dane Searls.

In the interview below Kyle talks about the loss, how he dealt with it and how he truly believes that his brother is always watching over him. Very inspirational story from this amazing athlete. RIP Dane Searls.

You know I really did not want to have to write this, this is not the kind of update I wanted to be giving anyone when they came over to Drakkar Distribution to see what was happening with Dane. Dane fought hard, but was not able to make it back from the head trauma that he sustained last Sunday evening. Fact is Dane was one of the gnarliest BMX riders on the planet and there was no one that could touch him when it came to going huge on a bike. He blew peoples minds with the “Giants Of Dirt” sessions and he was a kid who lived hard and lived in the moment. We will miss you and your riding Dane and Drakkar Distribution would like to send our thoughts and well wished to your family, friends and the whole Unit company. RIP homie.

We will never forget these sessions brother.

Dane Searls Update.

BMX rider Dane Searls condition has improved very slightly since falling from a balcony and sustaining head and neck trauma last Sunday night. Unit Riders teammate and Olympic BMX hopeful Caroline Buchanan wrote via Twitter on Wednesday that Searls had “squeezed his cousin’s hand. He is off the drugs, on life support still. His jaw moved, legs twitched. Dane is fighting!”

Searls remains in critical condition after he apparently tried to jump into a swimming pool at Surfers Paradise night club Billy’s Beach House on Sunday night. Searls’ main sponsor, Unit Clothing, has setup a donation fund, which they donated $10,000 to on Wednesday, and are offering Dane Searls posters for sale, with all proceeds going to Searls’ donation fund, on the Unit Clothing website.

Unit clothing has also asked people to change their profile pic on facebook to the picture below in support of Dane Searls.

If you would like to make a donation to the Dane Searls recovery fund the information is below. If nothing else Drakkar Distribution is asking everyone to keep sending positive vibes Dane’s way.
